Mimi LeGrange

With the Edinburgh Fringe Festival starting for many artists and creatives, we had the very special opportunity of catching up with “five time Tony nominated (and don’t you forget it) star of the show” Mimi LeGrange (brought to life by Anna Unwin). Music & Murder by… is billed as ”A last-ditch writer’s retreat to finish writing a new musical turns deadly when two of the writers decide the only way to save their show is to rid themselves (permanently) of their insufferable collaborator – only to find the plot spiral out of control when his faded Broadway diva mother crashes the retreat with a sinister scheme of her own.”

How would you describe your show to someone discovering it for the first time at the Fringe?

I think we’ve heard enough from the writers so I’LL be taking over…The show is a dark comedy musical about a writer’s retreat turned deadly. There’s suspense, scandal and a star at the centre of it all (ME!).

What moment, idea or frustration first sparked this show into existence?

The three writers were hopelessly lost in a wilderness of creative differences – until I stepped in to save the day.

How has the show evolved from its earliest idea to what audiences will see now?

At its start: a core idea and a few scenes and songs with potential. Now (since I joined the cast): glamour, star power, SPECTACLE!

What makes Edinburgh Fringe the right place for this show right now?

The Fringe is where everyone comes to discover the next big thing. I thought it was time I gave them something to REALLY talk about.

What does bringing this particular show to the Fringe represent for you personally?

10 years of waiting for my comeback, here at long last.

What has been the most unexpectedly challenging part of getting this show to Edinburgh?

Trying to walk down the Royal Mile incognito without being mobbed by adoring fans.

If audiences leave the venue holding onto one thing, what do you hope it is?

The feeling that they’ve witnessed a star being (re)born – me, of course.

How do you think performing this show during a Fringe run will shape it?

Fortunately for the writers, I’ll be bringing a certain level of polish to the show that I don’t think it’s experienced before that will catapult it to an even more fabulous level.

Who do you hope this show finds at the Fringe?

Anyone who’s been asking themselves, “Where has Mimi been?” The answer won’t disappoint – I didn’t come to Edinburgh for nothing.

Finally, if this show came with a warning label, what would it say?

BEWARE THE PUMPKIN MUFFIN.

Music & Murder by… runs at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 7th – 15th August 2026.
