Kat Ronson

Next in our series of chatting to creatives and casts of Edinburgh Fringe 2026, we catch up with Kat Ronson who is bringing Millennial Girl to the festival. ”Millennial Girl throws you headfirst into the drama, nostalgia and chaos of the 2000s through Kat Ronson’s viral throwback character, Katie, amassing over 70 million views online. Join Katie as she salutes the generation that didn’t break the internet, but built it. Millennial Girl will haunt you with sweeping fringes, limewire viruses and questions you couldn’t help but ask… ASL?”

How would you describe your show to someone discovering it for the first time at the Fringe?

A sketchy, stand-up, musical love letter to the 2000s. Through the eyes of Katie, 15/f/uk. Disaster and icon of 2005.

What moment, idea or frustration first sparked this show into existence?

I did a sketch about shag bands that got 37 million views, that got me thinking ‘maybe this character needs a show’.

How has the show evolved from its earliest idea to what audiences will see now?

I had no idea what on earth I was planning when I filled in the application. It now has original songs, I never thought I would have a musical show. But it makes sense to me, as the music of the 2000s is so iconic and loved. I wanted to create a time portal to 2005, I wasn’t expecting to be able to make some cheeky nods to modern day problems with it. I thought it would just be a fun nostalgia show. But I’ve done that and so much more.

What makes Edinburgh Fringe the right place for this show right now?

If you can’t relive your childhood trauma and sing a ballad about the Brangelina scandal at Edinburgh Fringe, where can you?

What does bringing this particular show to the Fringe represent for you personally?

I think other performers can relate to the lack of control and having to rely on others to give you opportunities/permission. Putting on this show is a stand that I’m not waiting, I’m gonna make my own luck.

What has been the most unexpectedly challenging part of getting this show to Edinburgh?

Finding room in my car for all the props and set I need! Yes, NEED! It is super important to me that my audience don’t have to imagine everything. But challenges? The process of putting it together has flowed. It’s been joyful and actually… unexpectedly lacking in trials. It’s never felt forced, which makes me think I’m on to something really special here.

If audiences leave the venue holding onto one thing, what do you hope it is?

I hope they remember a precious memory, person, conversation that being in Katie’s 2000s bedroom has unlocked.

How do you think performing this show during a Fringe run will shape it?

I think being in the energy of the fringe, that ‘anything goes’ vibe, and seeing all the other wild and wonderful art will make me go even bigger.

Who do you hope this show finds at the Fringe?

What’s shocked me most so far is the age ranges coming to the show. I’ve had boomers and Gen Z in, saying they absolutely loved it and found it hilarious. So anyone who wants a good laugh and wants to come on this magic carpet ride!

Finally, if this show came with a warning label, what would it say?
