Greta Tude (Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2023 & 2024)

The biggest Eurovision Song Contest festival headed to the United Kingdom for the 2025 edition. ‘Manchagen’ featured live concerts with some of the 2025 entries, as well as former Eurovision acts.

Greta Tude is a drag queen originally from Malta who now lives in Swansea, Wales. Greta reached the semi-final of the Maltese national selection in 2023 with Sound of My Stilettos and made it to the final in 2024. Her song TOPIC (Bla Bla) won Best Music Video 2024.

We caught up with her in person to hear about her Eurovision experience and her thoughts on the 2025 contest.

Hello Greta, you’re now living in South Wales?

I live in South Wales. I’m originally from Malta, but yes—now based in South Wales.

I’m from Wrexham, North Wales.

Ah, okay! Not that far. About two and a half hours, is it?

Far enough! For those who don’t know, could you tell us about your song from the 2024 pre-selection and how you found the experience?

Of course! So, my song last year was called TOPIC (Bla Bla) and we wrote it at the Malta Eurovision exchange camp. It was the first music camp we had in Malta. I was there with my team and we wrote the song together. When we wrote it, we already had the vision for the stage, for the music video, we knew exactly what we wanted. I’m so happy and proud that we got that far: to make the music video, to reach the final in Malta, and to live the whole experience. It was incredible, everything I imagined and more. So yeah, I was really, really chuffed to have been a part of it.

How did you find performing in the final? That performance was everything!

Thank you! The performance was so much fun. My team and I rehearsed so much. When you do something like this, especially for me, because Eurovision means everything you just practice, practice, and practice so you can’t get it wrong. So when we got on that stage, we were ready for it. We just went for it and enjoyed every moment. The team in Malta, everyone behind the scenes, PBS (the Maltese public broadcaster) they were so supportive of all the artists. It was the best experience ever.

2025 sees Miriana Conte representing Malta…

I LOVE Miriana! I’ve known her since we were kids maybe 10 or 11 years old, so seeing her live out her dream is amazing. First of all, as a friend, I’m really proud and happy for her. And as an artist, I truly appreciate what she’s doing. The music is incredible, the song is great, and people are talking about her which is exactly what Malta needs.

Absolutely! You’ve been involved in the Eurovision bubble for the last two years, but what does Eurovision mean to you?

Eurovision to me means family. It means community. It means a love for music. I agree with the new slogan, United by Music, to me, that’s Eurovision at its best: uniting countries through a shared love of music. I’m really happy they chose that. But beyond that, it brings back so many memories of my younger self and my family all sat around the sofa with a takeaway every single year.

Oh, I love that!

I know, right? You can’t go wrong! And after that, I started watching all the national finals and really got into it. That’s when I found my community, Eurovision.
